Race & Grace Mondays
MONTH ONE
One Race
Kick off your first four Mondays investing prayer of all kinds around the simple but powerful truths of our belonging to one race - the human race. Each equally made in God's image. Kinfolk created by God to evolve & express great diversity. This is the starting place of all that is beautiful - And the starting place of all that is challenging. Come, let us pray.
First Monday
Imago Dei
Prayer Points
-
Open the eyes of us all to recognize the reality of a loving & ever-present God as our creator.
-
Deepen our understanding that we're all made in God's image & are called to honor that image by treating in one another with love & dignity.
-
Deliver us from that which would lead us to devalue & demean any image-bearer, & empower us to embody God's hope & intentions in how we relate to one another, especially across lines of ethnic diversity.
-
Let holy repair & reconciliation be invited into the arenas where our nation has historically failed to honor God's image across racial lines.
Second Monday
KINFOLK
Prayer Points
-
With God's help, may all of humanity acknowledge our kinship to one another through a common bloodline & lineage from our shared parentage.
-
May God inspire & embolden people from all walks of life to express this revelation that we are all kinfolk - & to do so in ways that confront & help put to rest lies of racial supremacy.
-
May we all accept our shared identity to belong to & be like God our Father, & receive our shared responsibility to steward this world in ways that are merciful, just, & loving toward one another across all tribal, socio-economic & ethnic lines.
-
Help the Church embrace its calling to help bring 'on earth as in heaven' in arenas of society still disfigured by racism.
Third Monday
DIVERSITY
Prayer Points:
-
Help us recognize, understand & embrace God's purposes in creating humanity to evolve in ways that express wildly diverse ethnicities & cultures.
-
Instead of color-blindness, help us acknowledge & value ethnic diversity, & seek to see & respond to the unique ways people of color have long been profoundly impacted by racism.
-
We're called to be a mosaic, not a melting pot. Father, teach the whole of our society to honor, integrate & celebrate rather than deny, mask or assimilate our ethnic & cultural differences.
-
Give us courage to actively pursue educational & personal relationships across ethnic lines, & to position ourselves to stand in solidarity in the work to end all forms of racism still at work in stratums of our society.
